Industries Served

Because of our rigorous quality assurance and high standards, our clientele draws heavily from defense, aerospace, and aviation. However, the verticals in which we initially built our reputation, including automotive and consumer goods — where our standards are no less exacting — continue to benefit from our services as well.

Our Injection Mold Services

What can we do for you? More than you may realize.

Injection Mold Maintenance

Repeated cycles take a toll on the mold, requiring varying degrees of tool maintenance. Cleaning and polishing addresses buildup and wear that comes with use. Mold benching restores fine details to intricate parts. And mold spotting ensures that all of the mold’s various components are working together as they should. Addressing these steps can help to reduce the chances that repairs are needed later, as well as prolonging the service life of the mold.

Injection Mold Repairs

Because of the nature of the molding process, every mold has a finite lifespan. Even careful and timely maintenance won’t always be enough to prevent quality control issues or a wide range of other issues that we’ll discuss below. For many of our services (including in-press repairs and benching, as well as most preventative maintenance services), we come to you, ensuring a faster turnaround that limits downtime and prevents production delays.

Signs You Need a Mold Repair

What common injection mold defects and product defects should alert you that it’s time to service, repair, or replace an injection mold?

Mold Cycles

It’s worth bearing in mind that maintenance schedules and mold replacement are dependent on the number of cycles completed, not on operating time or age. The number of cycles for which a mold is rated will vary depending on mold material and injection material alike, not to mention feed rates. There are times when you may overrun the desired number of cycles — especially when demand is high — but you should bear in mind that overworking an injection mold can lead to damage.

Operating Conditions

There are certain circumstances under which even intended use can damage a mold. Certain resins can have a corrosive effect on tools. Prolonged exposure to high temperatures or high pressure can also cause erosion, or interfere with tool geometry.

Parts Defects

You may lose track of how many cycles you’ve run, and you may not always know what to look for when diagnosing a tool problem. With that said, your first warning sign of a problem will be when parts defects reveal problems with the molding process. These can include, but are by no means limited to:

  • Short shots, where parts are ejected in an incomplete state
  • Burrs and flashing, excesses of plastic that seep into the gaps in the mold
  • Flow marks caused by uneven injection speed or cooling
  • Blistering, stress cracks, and burn marks brought on by prolonged exposure to high temperatures
  • Drag marks caused by a misaligned ejector system
  • Voids or depressions from non-uniform heating or cooling of materials
  • Contaminants from breakdowns in the mold
  • Color streaks or discoloration that arise when mixing is not uniform, or a failure to properly flush the hopper and feeder
